Merging Meaningful Care with Infection Control in LTC: The Butterfly Model Approach to Long-term living - Kerry Ryan

The session will begin with exploring the challenges faced in long-term care, emphasizing the importance of emotional well-being alongside clinical safety. It will be based on the Butterfly Model, an emotion-focused approach that transforms care environments into vibrant, homelike spaces. We’ll examine how IPAC can be effectively integrated into this model without compromising its core values. Through case studies, interactive activities, and practical strategies, participants will learn how to begin integrating the philosophy of the Butterfly Model principles in their facilities while maintaining high standards of infection control.

Beyond Compliance: Inspiring Leadership in IPAC for LTC - Lisa Castellan, Lauren Horinga

Following the Butterfly Model, this segment of the session examines the critical role of IPAC leadership in long-term care, highlighting the unique challenges faced in retaining skilled professionals in this field. Participants will explore key factors influencing retention, such as workload, recognition, and professional development opportunities. The session will offer practical strategies to strengthen IPAC leadership, build credibility, and increase visibility within their homes—through education, mentoring, and quality improvement initiatives. Attendees will leave with actionable ideas to support and sustain IPAC excellence in their organizations.

Sexuality and IPAC in Congregate Settings - Leigh Mouck, Jennifer Katz

Following Inspiring Leadership, the last segment of the session explores the intersection of sexuality and IPAC in LTC settings. Participants will learn the basics of sexual health as it relates to IPAC and examine why sexuality presents unique challenges compared to other infection control topics. Through self-reflection activities, attendees will consider how personal values and cultural backgrounds influence care. The session will also cover the rights and responsibilities of residents, staff, families, and administrators, and address special considerations in congregate living—such as STI outbreaks, privacy, and consent. Practical tools and resources will be shared to support respectful, safe, and inclusive care
