Z317.12 Cleaning & Disinfection Standard - Mark Heller
- Published in March 2020, Canadian Standards Association (CSA) Z317.12:20 was Canada’s first national standard on Cleaning and Disinfection in Canadian Health Care. In 2024, a new technical subcommittee was formed to update the standard. The new committee has been significantly expanded and includes IPAC and EVS representation from every region of the country. The review represents a major revision to the practice-guidance information. At the same time, CSA has published an update to Z8000 Healthcare (Master) standard with a broadened and expanded definition of a Health Care facility, thus making the Cleaning and Disinfection standard applicable to facilities far beyond Hospitals and Long Term Care facilities. CSA plans to publish the update in early June 2025, just days before the IPAC Conference. The presenter will provide an overview of the changes and enhancements that impact IPAC and EVS performance across Canada.
Biofilms in Our Environment - Dr. Michelle Alfa
- This presentation will review 1) how biofilm reservoirs in healthcare settings can lead to the spread of MDROs (multi-drug resistant organisms) to patients and 2) the key factors/frustrations involved in eliminating/reducing biofilm reservoirs. Dr. Alfa will highlight the problems we encounter and recommend solutions for managing them for a safer environment of care.
Drains in Healthcare Environments - Natasha Salt & Vydia Nankoosingh
- Numerous studies and papers describe infections transmitted by pathogens that colonize sink drain reservoirs. Vydia Nankoosingh and Natasha Salt will have an interactive discussion about problems drains can cause and how we can address.
Emerging Pathogens and How to Mitigate the Threat They Pose - Dr. Prameet Sheth
- Dr. Prameet Sheth will discuss C. auris and emerging pathogens and how to be prepared and quickly address in your facilities.
