Chantal Trudel is an Associate Professor and the Director of Carleton University’s School of Industrial Design, with a cross-appointment to The School of Information Technology and a member of Carleton’s Human Computer Interaction Program. Trudel is an industrial designer (BID, Carleton University), an ergonomist/ human factors professional (MSc, University of Nottingham) with an Honours BA in Philosophy (University of Ottawa). Prior to her appointment at Carleton University, Chantal worked in industry for over a decade, first as a product designer (Teknion, Umbra), then specializing in healthcare planning and design (B+H Architects, Parkin Architects).
Chantal has worked in inclusive and accessible design to support health and wellness through various initiatives including the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) CREATE Research and Education in Accessibility Design, and Innovation (READi) program; the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) Abilities Living Laboratory (ALL); and the National Research Council’s Aging in Place Challenge Program. With regards to design for infection prevention and control, Trudel was a technical subcommittee member on the CSA Z8004:22 Long-term care home operations and infection prevention and control and long-term care amendments to the CSA Z8000. Chantal is also a member of Téchne (Technical Science for Health Network) working with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Food Programme (WFP) on their INITIATE² program. This program brings together emergency response actors, research organizations and academic institutions to develop innovative and standardized solutions and training to support readiness and response capabilities in health emergencies.
