Mary has been a Member of CHICA – Canada (IPAC-Canada), since 1977. She served on the Board from 1983/84 as President Elect and as President/Chair (1985 & 1986), Past President 1987, Archivist, Chair 1994 National Education Conference, Chair of the LTC Interest Group 1999 - 2006, as well, served on numerous CHICA committees including: Policy, Standards/Guidelines, Fundraising and Education (1983 – 2000), Canadian Journal of Infection Control and in 2008 coordinated in the Audit Tool Development. In 1998 Mary received a certificate for perfect attendance at CHICA’s Conferences and Annual Meetings. She is the only member to achieve this designation. She continued her perfect attendance for 7 more years until 2005. Mary was elected and served as the Canadian representative on the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology,Inc. from 1998-2003.In 2003, Mary was given an Honorary Membership. She has also been given a life membership in both IPAC Southern Alberta and IPAC Nova Scotia Chapters.

Mary has practiced IP&C in acute care, long term care and the community. She has practiced in 5 provinces and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. She has experience with all 3 Corona viruses – SARS, MERS and COVID 19.
Mary came out of retirement in January 2021 to educate staff at all 37 community care facilities on PEI regarding IP&C practices during COVID 19 pandemic. She also was employed by Public Health PEI as a vaccinator (2021-2022) during the Pandemic.
