Dr Connie Switzer is a consulting Gastroenterologist at the Grey Nun’s Hospital (GNH) in Edmonton. Connie trained in Medicine and then Gastroenterology at the University of Alberta in Edmonton and initially joined the medical staff at the Edmonton General Hospital after finishing her GI fellowship. She was Medical Staff President when the EGH was moved to the GNH in the late 1980’s where she has continued as a GI Consultant on an on-going basis.

Connie has a life long interest in medical education and continuing competencies in practice. This interest has lead her into several hospital, provincial and national portfolios that have advanced medical education across Canada. She was a member of the CAG (Canadian Association of Gastroenterology) Education committee for many years and chaired CAG’s MOC (Maintenance of Certification) Committee for over 12 years.

Connie was a member of the RC (Royal College) GI Examination Board for over 12 years with four years as Chair (Chief Examiner) for the RC GI Examination Board

Connie was a member of the RC CPD Specialty Accreditation Committee for a number of years and chaired that committee for 4 years.

Connie has a life long interest in Celiac disease and that has led to advocacy for Canadians with Celiac disease with over 12 years as Chair of the CCA (Canadian Celiac Association) Professional Advisory Board.

Connie has shared her life with her family, including her 3 children, 2step children and 11 grandchildren. Connie’s husband of 40 years was a great support and companion but unfortunately passed away after a long illness in 2020.
