Dr. Greg German went to Grade 33 on bacterial viruses for both laboratory and Clinical care. He obtained a Ph.D. from Arizona State University on bacteriophages, then went to the University of Ottawa for medical school He continued at the University of Ottawa for a combined clinical and laboratory medical microbiology residency. He started his career on Prince Edward Island and for 10 years and beside serving as an IPAC medical advisor he lead on multiple national initiatives from urinary tract infections to XDRO definitions and antibiograms to point prevalence surveys. Since 2021 he moved to the University of Toronto as an assistant and soon to be associate professor, and has received a named professorship in bacteriophage therapy research and innovation. Clinically, he is a medical microbiologist and Clinician investigator and staff physician for an infectious disease clinic at Unity Health Toronto focusing on chronic urinary tract infections. He has national and international leadership roles including Association of Medical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases AMMI Canada Phage Therapy Working group, Phage Canada Co-Founder and Clinical Director, and Chair of Global Clinical Phage Rounds a group of over 320 mostly physicians discussing difficult phage therapy cases. In his free time he coaches competitive baseball for his two sons and travels back to PEI to run infectious disease clinics and catch up with friends.
