Christel Kjenner has more than 15 years experience in the public sector, on both the administrative and political sides of government. As the City of Edmonton’s Director of Affordable Housing and Homelessness, she led her team through significant change, developing a new approach to supporting affordable housing development that has grown the City’s nonmarket housing inventory by 40% since 2018. Most recently, as Director of the Housing Action Team, Christel oversaw the creation and implementation of an ambitious plan to further scale non-market housing delivery and to remove planning, policy and infrastructure-related barriers to market housing supply in Edmonton. She previously worked in the Office of the City Manager and the Real Estate Branch. Before joining the City of Edmonton, Christel held roles in the Government of Alberta, University of Alberta and as a public policy and communications consultant. Christel currently serves as Director, Partnerships - West for Build Canada Homes, where she leads a team responsible for establishing partnerships with affordable housing providers across BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba
